Something a little different that shows a little bit into how I take the portraits of the cute little ones…It’s all about the conversation!  I never ask for a smile…get those kiddos talking and their real personality can be captured, complete with genuine smiles and the twinkle in their eyes…Here are some before and after shots:

please meet the beautiful family of katie and john graham. i had the pleasure of photographing their family a few years ago before they moved to south africa. i know it has been a little tricky for some of my older clients from my old studio to find me since i opened sprout, so i was just thrilled when i heard the cheerful voice of katie graham on my voicemail. after traveling around the world, they have settled back in the salt lake valley and they were due for some updated family portraits. we had a wonderful late afternoon session up on the the university of utah campus where john and katie first met and fell in love. “that is the building where i realized i was in love with your father” she told her kids. hopefully we created a few more lovely memories of the campus for katie and john.

another bonus of the sugarhouse studio is that we are just around the corner from the soup kitchen on 1100 east! i have kept warm sipping on homemade chicken noodle soup… mmmmm.

i just adore our sugarhouse studio, but on a day like today i am so thankful for this space!   i wish i could control the weather, but unfortunately i don’t believe the technology has been invented yet. today we were supposed to have a portrait party downtown but with all of this snow, i had to have a plan b. for those who had their hearts set on outdoors downtown, we have rescheduled. but for those who are more limited by time and had to have their session today, we were able to simply shoot in our studio. this pretty little thing is named london and she is one the smiliest babies i have met in months! i won’t have today’s shoots edited until next week but i just had to post one sweet image from the day.

i am excited to announce our next portrait party! we are going for the urban settings of downtown salt lake. i will be shooting from 8am – 4pm. we have had some really great shoots from our october portrait parties. thank you everybody for coming out and i will make a blog post about the wheeler farm shoots very soon so stay tuned!

this is baby weissman. this is a great example for what parents should wear to a newborn session. i prefer mom and dad to wear nice clean shirts with arms that can be rolled up. The beautiful skin tones of a new bebe stand out beautifully against the dark tones of a black button-up shirt. these are just a few of my favorites from the weissman’s new bebe portrait session.

i have photographed down at the salt lake lds temple too many times to count. 99% of those shoots are newly married couples fresh out of the temple. so when kimberly summers requested to photograph her family down on the temple grounds, i was really excited. it’s really fun to approach a old location with a new subject in mind. shooting a family on a weekday evening is totally different from a bride and groom on a saturday morning. we didn’t have to wait our turn for the stairs or strategically compose the family and avoid 30 people in the close vicinity. we had such a relaxing shoot and the children were just darling. the smallest is named saylor and she definitely kept us moving. thank you summers!

last saturday we had our first special location shoot. thank you to all of the families who came out to pose and play in the sand and salty water. we had gorgeous weather and got some amazing shots! i would definitely say it was a success and we will continue to do our special location shoots each month. here is are just a few of my favorites from our day at the great salt lake…

twig and spencer larkin have one of the greatest families ever! I am so tickled to see the family year to year as the children grow in age and in number. little samri is the newest recent addition to the clan so twig wanted to come in for an updated complete family photo. we got some great shots of the family and the individual kids. since samri is the newbie i spent some extra time with her so that she can be added to the wall of kids portraits in the home.

samri is from addis-ababa, ethiopia–the capital. spencer and kuilina traveled there at the end of May to pick her up. she’s lived in an orphange since birth. her first language is amharic and she speaks it fluently. she is currently in pre-school with her brother, ron and is excelling. they might as well be twins as they give their mother double-trouble!

this is a traditional dress from samri’s home in ethiopia. sweet isn’t it?

sweet sweet harrison david seibel was one week old for his first photo shoot. i love newborns when they are still super-flexible and like to be snuggled into a ball. we did the shoot in the seibel home where harrison was comfortable and we could use special items like his crib and bedding or his mother’s bedspread. They are small details that mean so much in image. who remember’s what their crib bedding looked like? i certainly don’t, but harrison will always have record of the uber-cool bedding his grandma gloria picked out for him.

as a newborn harrison sleeps… a lot! hence mostly sleeping photos. thats what newborns do best. his mother, erin has decided to go with our baby collection so you will see more posts of harrison as the year goes by. i really enjoyed working with harrison, erin, grandma gloria and even daddy david for the last few minutes of the shoot. he arrived just as we were wrapping up but i just had to get a few with him. thank you seibels! love, logan

our first shoot will be september 19 out at the saltair at the great salt lake. come have your portrait taken in an environment strictly unique to the salt lake valley. while the summer heat is subsiding, the lake will still be warm enough to dip your toes and the air should be very comfortable. though many of you may hesitate because if the smell of the lake, i assure you, it is never that bad and you get used to it quickly. plus i promis the photos will be worth the smell and the salty toes. starting at 8am and shooting until 8pm, we will be photographing families, children, maternity, basically anything you want!
