Jamie’s Stormy Bridals | ZumaPhoto

%utah wedding photographer %wedding photojournalism ||When the manager of your city’s premier couture bridal shop selects you as her wedding photographer, the first thing you feel is flattered. I mean, this is someone who has daily first-hand experience with the finest that the wedding industry has to offer. So for her to have picked me out of the great pool of local talent was quite an honor.

The second thing you experience is a sense of pressure as you realize “Holy crap! This is a someone who has daily first-hand experience with the finest the wedding industry has to offer!! We’ve got to come up with something new and amazing that she’s never seen before!! Something….dramatic….”   So, with a little help from the weather, that’s what we set out to do.

Jamie from Salt Lake’s FABULOUS Alta Moda Bridal is one of those amazingly cool and relaxed brides that just makes me thankful for my job. She put her faith in my instincts/vision and trusted that whatever I was asking her to do would make her look great (even if she may have felt stupid doing it on occasion) – and with a cold no less! She was a trooper, as the kids these days are fond of saying (I’m so in touch with the younger generation).

When the day came it was a stormy one. While we waited for the rain to subside we did a couple of setups in our Über-cool Studio®. I really love the spontaneity and sense of exploration that location shooting engenders, but a well-appointed studio gives you amazingly fine-grain control over the lighting. The word I was exploring on this day was ‘theatrical’.

When the rain finally broke we headed out for a little architectural feature that I’d had my eye on for a while – this funky little concrete outcropping. Clients often focus on location as the most critical element of an engagement or bridal shoot, but the truth is that light is by far the most important element. This was set at the edge of the parking lot of a community rec center and upon hearing that, there are probably pretty few clients who would have been excited about it. But with the right light….

We have a 56″x32″ canvas gallery wrap of this top left image in the studio and its stunning!

I really love the editorial nature of this shot – the hunt for the elusive perfect shoes.

Jamie, you are a beauty and a pleasure to work with. You can haunt my studio anytime! %utah wedding photographer %wedding photojournalism ||

Amazing shots of Jamie! My favorite is the cement window B&W blue-tone, just gorgeous…

  2. CJ says:

Beautiful Bride, gorgeous dress, spectacular photography. Looks like photos for a high end fashion magazine spread. cj

  3. Jamie says:

Wow! I am extremely flattered! How did I get so lucky?! I know I’ve said this a millions times, but thank you so much Mitch!! You were so great to work with. Our pictures were so amazing, all because of you. I know the main thing every one was talking about at our wedding was the photography! “Who did your pictures?! They are amazing!” I’m pretty sure I heard this several times throughout the night. You are the really the best! Thank you thank you!

  4. Jeremy says:

Absolutely beautiful pictures Mitch. So much talent in one family. I’m now convinced that Zen is a genetic experiment to produce the best photographer ever made. Look out world.

  5. Mitch says:

Aw, thanks, Jeremy! I have to tell you though that so far Zen’s images are unfocused and derivitive. And often of feet…

  6. Timothy Uhl says:

Rocking awesome job on these Mitch. I dig the lighting on the first shot, it’s simple but really directs your eye. Kudos!

  7. Logan says:

Jamie is such a stunning bride! I love the contrast of the soft warm bride against the stormy sky and the cool concrete structure! Those clouds look like a painting. Nice job!

  8. Ryan says:

Once again, amazing work Mitch! Love the outdoor shots – great location.

  9. Mitch says:

Thanks for helping me out, Ryan!!

  10. Scott says:

Simply stunning. Mitch you’re amazing and the uber-hot bride doesn’t hurt. I’ll send everyone looking for a wedding photographer your way.

  11. Thanks for this. Sometimes it can be tough to pick the best wedding shoes. Often many women will go for best looking shoes. But also they need to keep in mind about their comfort. Wearing an uncomfortable pair can ruin a woman’s best day, isn’t it?

  12. Great article. I was just searching for something else on Google and stumbled upon on your site. You’ve put some good effort into getting this up.
